Tespen began with three people at UC Berkeley asking a simple question: how do we turn the progress made in autonomous driving into a product a transit operator can actually deploy?

From a research question at Berkeley to an office in San Francisco.

Success isn’t another driverless car downtown. It’s an operator adding service instead of cutting it, a city moving more people without more cars, and a bus that still comes every fifteen minutes.

Why Europe first.

Public transport is part of everyday life in European cities. Cities are compact, routes are shorter, buses run at lower speeds, and operators need more drivers than they can hire.

We spun out of UC Berkeley and are based in San Francisco. Our center of gravity is moving to Europe: we are opening our R&D and operations center in Italy, close to the operators and cities we build for.
